This is the redesigned Magic Keyboard built for the M4 iPad Pro, and it is a materially different product from the one it replaces. The palm rest is aluminium rather than soft-touch fabric, which means it does not go shiny and grey after a year of use in a warm climate.

What changed

• A function row — brightness, volume, escape and media keys, finally present on a keyboard at this price
• A larger trackpad with haptic feedback — it clicks anywhere on the surface with no moving parts
• Aluminium palm rest for rigidity and wear resistance
• USB-C passthrough charging on the hinge, leaving the iPad's own port free for a drive, monitor or SD reader
• Backlit keys with proper scissor-mechanism travel

The floating hinge

The iPad attaches magnetically and cantilevers above the keys, so you can adjust the viewing angle and the screen sits closer to eye level than on a laptop. It also detaches in one motion when you want the tablet on its own — which is the whole reason to run an iPad instead of a MacBook.

Compatibility, stated plainly

This model fits the 11-inch iPad Pro with M4 only. It is not compatible with the 13-inch model or with earlier iPad Pro generations — the magnet layout and dimensions differ. If you are unsure which iPad you own, send us a photo of the back on WhatsApp and we will confirm before you pay.
