Signs your iPhone XS Max needs a new battery

  • Settings > Battery > Battery Health shows below 80%, or says "Service"
  • It shuts down at 20–30%, or dies before evening on a normal day
  • It slows down or gets hot doing simple things
  • The screen is lifting at the edge. That means a swollen battery: stop charging it and bring it in

Signs your iPhone XS Max needs a new screen

  • Cracked glass, even if the phone still works. Cracks spread and let in moisture
  • Green or pink lines, black spots, or a patch of the display that stays dark
  • Touch stops responding in one area, or the phone taps by itself

Repair or sell?

The iPhone XS Max no longer gets new iOS versions (its last is iOS 18). A battery is still worth it if you plan to keep the phone another year or two. Before paying for a screen, compare it with what the phone is worth: check its trade-in value and put that toward a newer iPhone.
