On price alone, the Fold 7 costs less than half as much. That is real, and for many people it settles the question. But if price were the only thing that mattered you would not be looking at foldables, so read on.
The Biggest Difference Is the Shape
These two phones fold in the same direction but open into very different things.
- The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a normal phone that opens into a small tablet. Closed, it is tall and narrow (158mm by 73mm, 8.9mm thick) with a full 6.5-inch cover screen that feels like any other phone in your hand. Open, you get an 8-inch screen. Most of the day you use it closed, and open it for reading, spreadsheets or two apps side by side.
- The iPhone Duo is a small phone that opens into a wide screen. Closed, it is short and broad (118mm by 84mm, 11.3mm thick), closer to a passport than a regular iPhone, with a 5.4-inch cover screen. Open, it becomes a 7.6-inch landscape-style canvas that suits video, photos and reading. Apple designed it to be opened often.

You're Right to Choose the Galaxy Z Fold If...
You want to use it like a normal phone most of the time
The Fold 7's cover screen is a full-width phone screen, so WhatsApp, calls, maps and banking apps all work closed without compromise. Some people open their Fold only a few times a day, and that is fine. It is also the lighter and thinner of the two.
You run two Nigerian lines
The Fold takes two physical SIM cards, plus eSIM. If you keep an MTN line for data and an Airtel or Glo line for calls, you can swap SIMs between phones the way you always have. The iPhone Duo is eSIM only everywhere in the world, so every line has to be converted to eSIM with your network first.
You want zoom and camera flexibility
The Fold 7 has a 3x telephoto lens and a 200MP main camera. The iPhone Duo has no telephoto. If you photograph events, church, your children's sports or anything across a room, the Fold has the edge.
You like getting work done on your phone
Samsung has had seven generations to refine multitasking on a folding screen: three apps at once, floating windows, drag and drop between them, and Samsung DeX. If your phone is also your office, this is mature and it works.
You'd rather not spend over ₦3.5 million
At ₦1,692,800, the Fold 7 gives you a flagship foldable for well under half the Duo's price. That is not settling. It is a current-generation phone with seven years of Android updates ahead of it.
You're Right to Wait for the iPhone Duo If...
You're already on iPhone
If your photos are in iCloud, your family is on iMessage and FaceTime, and you use AirPods or an Apple Watch, the Duo slots straight in. Switching to any Android phone means moving all of that, and that friction is real. Staying with what already works for you is a perfectly good reason.
You'll mostly use it open, for watching and reading
The Duo's wide inner screen suits video, photos and long reads with less letterboxing than a taller screen. Apple built the phone around the open experience, and it shows.
Lagos dust and rain worry you
The iPhone Duo is rated IP68, which covers dust as well as water. The Fold 7 is IP48, which means strong water resistance but only limited protection from fine dust. If you work outdoors, ride okada or keep your phone in an open pocket, that difference is worth weighing.
You care about keeping the value
iPhones have always held their resale value well in Nigeria, and there is no reason to expect Apple's first foldable to be different. If you replace your phone every two years and want the most back when you do, that counts in the Duo's favour.

What About the Galaxy Z Fold 8?
Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in August 2026, and it is the Fold that looks most like the iPhone Duo: a shorter, wider design with a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.5-inch cover screen. Samsung also sells a Z Fold 8 Ultra that keeps the tall Fold 7 shape. If you like the Duo's shape but want Android and two physical SIMs, the Fold 8 is the one to ask about. There is no wrong answer between these two, only a better fit. If you already use an iPhone and want a foldable, the iPhone Duo is the natural next step and worth the wait. If you want a foldable today, rely on physical SIMs, or want the most phone for the money, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a superb choice and costs less than half as much.
