iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra in Nigeria (2026): Which Flagship to Buy

iPhone 18 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra in Nigeria (2026): Which Flagship to Buy

If you're spending more than two million naira on a phone this year, it's probably one of these two. The iPhone 18 Pro Max and the Galaxy S26 Ultra are the most complete phones Apple and Samsung make, and on paper they're closer than ever: both have 6.9-inch screens, 60W charging and long-range telephoto cameras.

But they're good at different things. One lasts longer and the other charges faster. One has a pen and the other has a camera with real aperture blades. Here's how they compare for someone buying in Nigeria.

Battery: the iPhone lasts longer, the Samsung refills faster

The iPhone 18 Pro Max has the bigger battery: 5,567 mAh on the eSIM-only version, against Samsung's 5,000 mAh, the same capacity as the last four Ultras. GSMArena gave the iPhone an Active Use score of 19 hours 20 minutes, the longest of any iPhone it has tested.

The Galaxy fights back on charging. It goes from empty to full in about 42 to 43 minutes, against about 55 minutes for the iPhone. During power cuts in Nigeria, both matter. If you can charge in short bursts on a generator or at work, the Samsung's speed is worth more. If you often go a full day without a socket, the iPhone's capacity wins.

Cameras: different strengths

The Galaxy has the more versatile zoom. With a 3x and a 50MP 5x telephoto, it reaches further than the iPhone's single 4x lens, which matters for church, concerts, events and anything you can't walk closer to. Its 200MP main camera now has a wider ƒ/1.4 aperture for better low-light shots.

The iPhone's main camera has real aperture blades that move from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0, the way a proper camera lens does. That gives you natural background blur, or every face sharp in a group photo, without software tricks.

Performance and heat

Both are as fast as any phone gets. Tom's Guide measured the A20 Pro about 25% ahead of the S26 Ultra in single-core speed, and the iPhone's new vapor chamber keeps it cool through long 4K recordings. GSMArena found the Snapdragon slows down under long, heavy loads, but you'd only notice that in extended gaming. In everyday use, neither will feel slow.

What only the Galaxy has

The S Pen. If you sign documents, annotate PDFs or take handwritten notes, nothing on an iPhone replaces it.

The Privacy Display. The screen turns dark to anyone looking from the side, so the person next to you on the BRT or in a banking hall can't read your bank app. You can switch it on for chosen apps or for PIN entry. It's the feature reviewers talked about most. Our Galaxy S26 Ultra review covers it in detail.

What only the iPhone has

The Apple ecosystem. If you have a MacBook, iPad, AirPods or Apple Watch, the iPhone works with all of them in ways a Galaxy can't.

Resale value. In Nigeria, iPhones hold their value better than Samsung flagships, and they're easier to sell or trade in when you upgrade. That makes the higher upfront price easier to justify over two or three years.

An eSIM-only option. It's cheaper and has a bigger battery than the physical SIM version. The details are in eSIM or physical SIM.

Which one to buy

Buy the iPhone 18 Pro Max if you already use Apple devices, care most about battery life and photography, or plan to trade the phone in within two or three years.

Buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra if you'd use the S Pen, want the longest zoom, charge in short bursts, or want seven years of guaranteed updates.
