Which Console Do You Need for GTA 6? Prices in Nigeria Before November 19

Which Console Do You Need for GTA 6? Prices in Nigeria Before November 19

Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on November 19, 2026. If you're still gaming on a PS4 or Xbox One, it won't run on your console. Rockstar built it only for the current generation.

That gives you a few weeks to sort out your setup before launch day. This guide covers which consoles can play GTA 6, which one is worth your money in Nigeria, and how to cut the cost by trading in the console you already own.

The short answer: GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and nothing else. There's no PS4, no Xbox One and no PC version at launch.

Which consoles can play GTA 6?

  • PlayStation 5 (original "fat", Slim, disc and digital editions)
  • PlayStation 5 Pro
  • Xbox Series X
  • Xbox Series S

It will not run on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, Xbox One X or Nintendo Switch. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version either. Going by GTA 5's history, a PC release would probably come much later, so if you want to play this year you need a console.

Our verdict: get a PS5

For most buyers in Nigeria, a standard PS5 is the right console for GTA 6. It runs the full game, and you don't need the Pro to get the complete experience. It is also the console most of our customers game on, which makes it easier to find people to play GTA Online with.

If you already own an Xbox, or you just prefer it, the Xbox Series X plays GTA 6 just as well. It's currently our cheapest GTA-ready console.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X for GTA 6

On either console you get the same game, the same map and the same story. Here's how to choose:

  • Pick the PS5 if you're coming from a PS4. Your PS4 games play on a PS5, your controller habits carry over, and PlayStation is the more common console here, so it's easier to find friends for GTA Online.
  • Pick the Xbox Series X if you want the lowest price for full GTA 6 performance, or you already have Xbox games and Game Pass.
  • Xbox Series S plays GTA 6 too, at a lower resolution. That's fine on a smaller TV, but we'd stretch to a Series X or PS5 if you can.
  • PS5 Pro adds sharper visuals, but it won't unlock extra content. For most players, the price gap is better spent on a second controller and games.

Disc or digital? It matters more in Nigeria

Sony doesn't run an official PlayStation Store for Nigeria. Most Nigerian gamers who buy digitally do it through a UK or US account, topped up with gift cards. That works, but every game costs you the exchange rate plus the gift-card markup.

A disc console gives you more options. You can buy GTA 6 on disc, swap games with friends and sell discs on when you're done. That's why we recommend the PS5 Slim Disc over the Digital for most buyers, even though it costs a little more.

Trade in your PS4 to pay for the upgrade

Your PS4 can't play GTA 6, but it still has value, and the best time to sell it is before November 19. Once launch day hits, everyone will be trying to sell their PS4 at the same time.
